Tips to personalise your stay in Florence

Tucked away down a quiet street, just moments from the heart of Florence, a stay at the Palazzo di Camugliano offers a rare opportunity to be immersed in an indulgent world of antiquities and privilege.

Owned by a Florentine Marquis, Lorenzo Niccolini di Camugliano, the palazzo dates back to the 16th century and still features the original ceiling frescos, fireplaces, ornate stuccowork and magnificent parquet flooring.

Wifi and the in-room mini-bar are both complimentary, indicative of the very welcoming atmosphere. Here you are a house, not hotel, guest, an atmosphere reinforced by the team who are on hand with one-to-one attention.

In true aristocratic style, breakfast is served by waiters, at your table, either in the garden or in the magnificent dining-room. Tea and coffee is available at other times and evenings kick off with prosecco and canapés.

Each of the bedrooms is quite different, in terms of size and outlook, but all are extremely elegant with four poster beds, antique furniture and high quality mirrored and marble bathrooms. The Limonaia suite looks directly out over the charming internal garden.

Common spaces include two sitting-rooms and, in addition, the frescoed dining room, where breakfast à la carte is served, and the buffet room with juices, a selection of teas and infusions, fruit, small home-made bakery, centrifuges and aperitifs available to the guests any time of the day.

When temperatures allow it, breakfast is served in the courtyard gardens.

If you love city markets and especially street food, do not miss the Central Market at lunchtime. The advice is to get lost among the food stalls, where you can stock up on wine, local cheeses and sausages and various other delights to take away or eat there.
