Opera at the Verona Arena

The historic Verona Opera Festival reaches its 98th edition in 2020 and expands the rich program with 53 evenings, 5 opera productions, 5 special events and opens with a completely new show that combines the famous Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci. International directors and artists, alongside the artistic and technical team of the Arena Foundation, will revive the magic of the world’s largest outdoor theatre.

Cavalleria Rusticana

The 2020 Festival opens on the 13th June 2020 with a new production of Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni and Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo. The two titles, absent from the stage since 2006, will be represented for 10 evenings in a new staging absolutely not to be missed.

Aida

As per tradition, the second title on the bill is the Aida by Giuseppe Verdi, a symbol of the Opera Festival since the first edition of 1913. Aida is proposed from June 20 for 16 dates in the imposing set-up conceived by Franco Zeffirelli and enriched by Anna Anni’s costumes.

Turandot

From June 27th, for 7 appointments, Puccini’s Turandot returns, also signed for the majestic direction and scenes by Franco Zeffirelli and with the sumptuous costumes of the Oscar winner Emi Wada.

Nabucco

The fourth title scheduled for 9 performances from the 4th of July is Verdi’s Nabucco in the elegant setting that inaugurated the 2017 Festival for the direction and costumes of Arnaud Bernard and the scenes of Alessandro Camera.

La Traviata

Finally, from 1 August for 6 evenings Verdi’s La Traviata is proposed in the wonderful production created for the 2019 Festival by Franco Zeffirelli who takes care of direction and scenes with the costumes of Maurizio Millenotti.”

Special Evenings

For the 2020 Festival the program will be enriched by some special evenings with extraordinary artists: on June 28th the first of the gala on the program will propose the Gala Event, which promises to be an unmissable event full of great surprises, while on July 7th we will attend to an unforgettable evening with Placido Domingo. The Gala Plácido Domingo will in fact be a unique opportunity to retrace his stellar career through some of the interpretations that have made him famous all over the world.

 

Following the great success achieved by the presales for the double evening of 2019, on 21 and 22 July, the Arena Foundation proposes Roberto Bolle and Friends, the appointment with the great dance that from 2014 enriches the calendar of the Verona Arena. Finally, on August 23, the famous and solemn notes of the IX Symphony of Beethoven will echo among the stones of the amphitheatre.
