Overview

Country-house style with a contemporary twist at this charming guesthouse in the hills above Camaiore. This former farmhouse has been restored by its art-loving owner Riccardo, filled with his own collection of vintage and modern art and opened up to guests.

Outside, a pretty pool area with sun loungers and umbrellas sits amongst leafy gardens dotted with modern sculptures and benches amongst the greenery. On a higher level, a large terrace, with wrought iron tables and chairs and filled with the scent of lavender and rosemary, looks out over the garden and the surrounding hills.

Rooms

Bedrooms are arranged on three floors with a sitting room and terrace for guests on every floor. Each room is individually styled, from art deco to vintage, with the Fifties themed Colle Suite, with a fireplace and four-poster bed, somewhere in between.

Dining

Breakfast is intended to be a leisurely lingering affair, with everything from cheese to charcuterie and quiche to cake, eaten under the shade of the pergola on the terrace. Simple lunches during the day  and three time a week, guests are invited to an informal dinner in the kitchen or on the terrace, hosted by Riccardo and chef Gian Luca.

Map

For anyone looking to combine a rural stay with beach life and a spot of sightseeing, the Locanda’s location is pretty much unbeatable. The gorgeous Versilian beaches and the coastal resorts of Forte di Marmi and Viareggio are a ten-minute drive away and on summer evenings in the old town of Pietrasanta, art installations, bars and restaurants jostle for space in the huge main piazza. The art treasures of Lucca and Florence are easily accessible or head into the Garfagnana for some superb hiking with a professional walking guide organised by the Locanda. For music fans, there is opera at the Torre del Lago Puccini festival for around four weeks from mid-July. Also nearby are the wonderful 17th century villas and gardens - the Villa Reale, Villa Mansi and Villa Torrigiani - in the hills around Lucca.
