Overview

Built into the defensive walls of the coastal town of Monopoli, the Don Ferrante is a former 16th century fortress with a sparkling white exterior and a roof terrace that overlooks the sea. Situated along a narrow lane within walking distance of the town’s shops and restaurants, the hotel is perched high above the rocks with the sound of lapping waves below.

This is boutique luxury without the fuss, a perfect illustration of 5-star service and attention to detail without unnecessary frills. The outside space comprises several sun decks, with a small pool tucked away in a walled corner of the main terrace, overlooking the sea.

The dazzling roof terrace, dotted with chalk white sun beds, sofas and sun shades, and lit up at night by the gentle glow of fourteen chimney stacks, is the place to be. Linger over an espresso for early morning glimpses of the fishermen at work below, untangling nets and sorting out their catch, and over a cool glass of wine in the evening, while you watch the boats going in and out and the last of the swimmers on the rocks below.

Rooms

The Mediterranean-style bedrooms combine elegance and style with high tech mod cons in a choice of Junior, Superior and Deluxe rooms, with magnificent stone arched ceilings and Pugliese limestone floors.

Rooms are furnished with king-size beds, fine linen bedding and ornamental white handmade ceramics. The magnificent Don Ferrante Suite has a separate living-room with fireplace and double doors from both rooms leading out to a terrace overlooking the sea.

Dining

At the Locanda Don Ferrante restaurant, you can dine outdoors on the freshest of seafood and traditional Pugliese dishes, on a terrace overlooking the sea.

There are heaps of restaurants, bars and cafés catering for all tastes and just a stone's throw of the Don Ferrante, ask the concierge for the most suitable.

Map

Easily accessible from both Bari and Brindisi airports, Monopoli is a lively coastal city, close to the heart of rural Puglia and the region’s most atmospheric inland towns. The modern part of the town has chic boutiques and some excellent restaurants and the hotel is very conveniently located within walking distance of the winding lanes and stairways of Monopoli’s centro storico.

Down on the seafront, there is a series of pretty little harbours and the impressive Charles V Castle, which dates back to 1552.

The public beach, with sparkling clear water and used by locals, is just a one minute walk away and the hotel also offers a shuttle service to another local lido where special rates are available to hotel guests.

From Monopoli, it is just a short drive inland to some of Puglia’s most fascinating towns such as the picture-postcard UNESCO world heritage site of Alberobello, characterised by its numerous trulli, and the pretty white-washed town of Locorotondo, well worth a visit for its views over the surrounding countryside.

This is the third occasion that Antonio has organised an Italian holiday for me. As it was a Birthday celebration involving a party of 10, the arrangements were complex, involving a villa, guides and attendance at the Palio on July 2nd. Without exception everything went exactly as planned. The recommended villa on the Montestigliano Estate, south west of Siena, was wonderful. Our guide made sure we had a full understanding of the history and culture of the Palio which meant that, with a spectacular view over the Campo from the apartment booked by Antonio, we were able to appreciate the event that much more. We shall certainly be going back to Italy with Expertoitaly.read more

Antonio with his meticulous planning and caring service has been solely responsible for the best Italian holidays we have had. His ability to offer excellent hotel accommodation which provides for every need and requirement is second to none . Hotels that are not main stream , that provide high quality of service in excellent locations are one of Antonio’s strength. It’s great to have a provider that know and understands his market. July 2018 _________________________________ Have just completed another 10 day holiday arranged by Antonio at Expert to Italy. We went with Antonio's suggestion and spent 2 days at Matera and then the remainder in Pisciotta in the Cilento. Matera was amazing and felt completely different to anywhere else we have been in Italy. We loved Pisciotta and the hotel was wonderful with lovely owners who were great at suggesting things to do. We visited a buffalo farm, a vinyard and tooks boats to isolated coves with lovely clear water. All arrangements were absolutely faultless. We would never have found such lovely places without Antonio! 2016 _________________________________ We have just returned from a fantastic holiday suggested no arranged by ExpertTo Italy. Once again the organisation by Antonio was flawless and everything worked perfectly. We spent 5 nights by lake Maggiore and 3 in Cogne in the Italian Alps. Both hotels and locations were fantastic - particularly the Bellvue in Cogne. Please see trip advisor if interested in the hotels as I will give a more specific review there - I'm not a fanatic reviewer but both really deserve it. We have used this company for the past 5 years and Antonio seems to have a real gift for finding fantastic hotels and matching locations to his clients. I would not usually put the level of trust in anyone to arrange holidays for me that I have with Antonio but he has delivered every time and I can unreservedly recommend his services. Italy is a beautiful country with huge variety - if you describe what you like to Antonio and let him make suggestions then you will not be disappointed. Very definitely 5 stars from me. So - Antonio and team, please keep it up! Jonread more

Antonio delivered more than expected! Our family of four stayed at two beautiful villa's on the Amalfi Coast. Both of the locations were top class. Antonio provided excellent service and was always available if we had questions about the details of our trip. He was easy to work with and we would recommend his services to others traveling to Italy.read more
