Only 20 minutes from Siena, Villa Armena truly is the perfect fairy-tale setting for you and your loved one to base yourself in romantic Tuscany.

Situated in the heart of the Crete Senesi (an astounding area of Tuscany renowned for the endless rows of rolling vineyards, olive groves, cypress trees, villas, monasteries and abbeys that dapple the landscape) the red-brick Renaissance structure of Villa Armena dates back to the 16th Century and was originally the country residence of the noble Sienese Malavolti family.

This property will transport you back in time with its terracotta floors, original oak beams and idyllic Italianate garden, but also give you the chance to relax and regenerate with its range of onsite wellness treatments and other activities. Pamper yourself with an organic essential oil massage, facial, or even a romantic couple’s massage (perfect for a honeymoon treat) to really get you into the holiday frame of mind.

Villa Armena boasts 10 rooms in total, which each possess their own individual character, as well as picturesque views of the luscious villa grounds and gardens, or of the rolling hills and boutique villages of the Crete Senesi.

Retaining period features including tiled/marble floors and rustic wooden beams, the rooms are each furnished opulently with luscious, patterned fabrics, and warm golden, red and ochre hues. Take your pick between the intimate classic rooms and the spacious suites, which can have beds added to them if you’ve brought your kids with you to enjoy your indulgent holiday.

The best rooms in the house are the Superior Suites where you will feel like royalty as you envelop yourself in the luxurious sheets of your king-sized bed, and relax in a spacious bubble bath in an opulently decorated bathroom.

Named after a 100-year old tree situated in the Villa garden, the hotel’s gourmet restaurant, Sorbo Allegro (or The Merry Rowan), serves up traditional, authentic Tuscan cuisine in an elegant environment, using local “slow food” produce as much as possible.

All dishes in the restaurant can be complimented with exquisite wines from the hotel’s wine cellar, which boasts a refined collection of unique bottles obtained from small, artisanal producers from Valle d’Aosta to Calabria, giving you the chance to explore the contrasting flavours of the country.

Villa Armena is a 5-km ride to the hamlet of Buoncovento and it's halfway between Siena and Montepulciano, about 50 minutes drive to both. The name Buonconvento comes from the latin ''bonus conventus'' meaning happy place, lucky community.  In addition to the verdant and idyllic landscape embracing the towns, there are numerous sights of great historical, architectural and artistic value, starting from the massive fourteenth-century city walls that once contained inside all the houses of the village.  The village has maintained its original appearance for many centuries, but in the course of the 19th century it experienced a marked evolution thanks to the construction of new buildings close to the walls, including the beautiful Teatro dei Risorti. Inside the walls the heart of Buonconvento is cut in two parts by Via Soncini, the main street named after an ancient family of the place, overlooked by the buildings of power. Like the Palazzo Podestarile, with the fourteenth-century tower with a rectangular plan and the Gothic arches that adorn the façade, enriched by 25 stone coats of arms corresponding to as many mayors . Not far away is the Palazzo Comunale, with its elegant brick façade, and the Palazzo Taja, built in brick in the second half of the 18th century at the behest of a local aristocratic family. The tour is completed by Palazzo Borghesi, of the 14th century, all decked out with coats of arms, and the Palazzo del Glorione, which in the past belonged to the Spedale of Santa Maria della Scala, now home to the Museum of the Confraternity of Mercy. Buonconvento is an ideal medieval village, immersed in the tradition and animated by exciting legends, and as such it offers visitors numerous opportunities for fun where the most representative traditions of the town are renacted.  In every period of the year, festivals and events of all kinds are held in the town: starting with the carnival celebrations, with colorful allegorical floats, and Easter with the antiquarian exhibition. In July you can watch the traditional threshing under the walls, while in September there is the famous Sagra della Val d'Arbia and the setting up, in the hamlet of Bibbiano, of the Beer Village. Buoncovento is also served by the rail line Orbetello-Grosseto-Buonvonvento-Siena and it's included in the list of Italy's most beautiful hamlets.
