Prati Palai gives you the countryside side of Lake Garda: a restored house, generous rooms and grounds where an afternoon by the pool can be the main event. Bardolino brings restaurants, waterfront walks and boat outings into the holiday, while the estate gives you somewhere peaceful to return to.

The accommodation is within La Colombarola, a characterful house set in an estate of approximately 18 hectares. Olive groves, meadows and woodland surround it; indoors, timber beams, muted colours and a mixture of furnishings give the rooms a relaxed, individual feel.

We would choose Prati Palai for couples who enjoy a comfortable suite and the freedom of a car. Plan a vineyard visit or a lakeside lunch, then come back with enough of the day left to enjoy being here.

Suite 4 · approximately 60 m²

A first-floor suite with a separate sitting room and views towards both the hills and Lake Garda. A strong choice for couples wanting space and an elevated outlook.

For ground-floor living

Suite 2 · approximately 60 m²

Separate living and sleeping areas on the ground floor. Its lake-facing side opens towards the courtyard, so choose it for the layout rather than expecting Suite 4’s higher perspective.

For a distinctive window

Suite 9 · approximately 60 m²

On the second floor, with timber beams, a separate sitting room and a circular bedroom window towards Punta San Vigilio. Worth considering for an occasion stay.

For an individual layout

Junior Suites

Junior Suites 3, 5 and 6 have split-level layouts. Some incorporate a bath in the living space; tell us whether stairs and an open arrangement suit you.

Begin with breakfast before setting out, with outdoor seating in the garden when conditions allow. The setting makes a leisurely morning worthwhile.

Through the day

Pool and light lunches

The outdoor pool is shared by guests of the house. Simple dishes such as salads and sandwiches are available during the day; gardens and woodland paths add variety to time on the estate.

There is no full restaurant service. Bardolino and the surrounding area provide the evening choice; we plan the return journey alongside your dining plans.

Location and logistics

Bardolino below, the countryside around you

Spend a morning around Bardolino’s harbour and old streets, follow the waterfront or choose a lake outing around the seasonal ferry timetable. The wine country inland gives you another reason to explore; vineyard visits can be arranged as an outing from the house.

The estate itself offers walks through its grounds. For longer walks or cycling, we help choose routes to suit your preferred distance and gradients.

A hillside address best enjoyed with a car

Prati Palai sits above town rather than on the waterfront. We recommend a hire car for this stay, with parking at the property. Getting to the harbour is a separate road journey before a ferry outing; this is not our first choice for a holiday based on walking everywhere.

The terraced gardens include packed-earth paths, and several rooms have internal stairs. If access matters, we check the room, breakfast area and pool route together. For a stay without driving, we would plan private transfers and dinner transport in advance.

Where it fits

Add a city or a mountain stay

These are alternative overnight combinations, rather than a list of day trips. Choose one additional base and give both places time.

Verona and Prati Palai: begin with a few nights in Verona for its historic streets, architecture and restaurants. Arrive by rail if it suits your journey, enjoy the city on foot, then collect a car for the Lake Garda stay.

Vicenza and Prati Palai: a stay in Vicenza adds Palladian architecture and a compact city centre. Travel between the two bases by car, with time for a villa visit when opening arrangements fit.

Prati Palai and Alta Badia: continue by car to Alta Badia for Dolomite scenery, walking and a mountain hotel. Treat the change of base as a travel day, then settle in for several nights rather than attempting the mountains as a day trip.

For ten to fourteen nights, two bases usually provide a comfortable balance of discovery and rest.
