Hotel Castello’s appeal is the combination of water, outdoor space and a town you can enjoy on foot. Set beside Malcesine’s castle, it gives you a lakeside place to settle between boat trips, mountain outings and evenings in the old streets.

The family-run four-star hotel has a traditional main building and a more contemporary four-star Living Suite annexe. Terraces, a sunbathing lawn and the Al Bacio restaurant keep the lake central to the stay, while the historic centre is around 50 metres away.

We would start with one of the suites. The extra sitting space and lake-facing terrace make a real difference if you plan to spend time at the hotel, whether that means reading outside, breakfast in town followed by a quiet afternoon, or simply enjoying the view before dinner.

An arranged arrival transfer lets you spend the stay exploring on foot and by boat. Parking and a garage also make the hotel useful within a driving holiday.

Four or five nights, or a week

Allow several days for Malcesine, a lake crossing and Monte Baldo. A longer stay gives more time for the hotel; minimum stays commonly vary between three and five nights.

Main hotel or Living Suite annexe?

Castello, Miralago, Ora and Peler are in the main hotel. Grandview is in the separate Living Suite annexe, with check-in at Hotel Castello. Tell us whether you value a large terrace, a separate sitting room or a whirlpool most; the best choice is not simply the largest category.

For space and the outlook

Suite Castello · 55 m²

A third-floor suite with a lounge and a lake-view terrace furnished with sunloungers. Our first choice for a spacious stay with outdoor room to relax. It accommodates up to two adults and two children.

For a family or longer stay

Suite Miralago · 50 m²

A third-floor suite with a lounge, sofa bed and lake-view terrace. The additional living space is useful for a longer stay or a family of up to two adults and two children; we confirm the bed arrangement for the children’s ages.

For an outdoor whirlpool

Grandview · 45 m²

In Living Suite, on the second floor, with a bedroom, living room and bathroom, plus a balcony and a large lake-facing terrace with a whirlpool. Choose it when time outdoors is a priority. Maximum occupancy is two adults and two children.

For a generous terrace

Suite Ora · 45 m²

On the second floor of the main hotel, with a lounge, sofa bed and a large lake-view terrace. A good alternative to the larger suites when outdoor space matters most; it takes up to two adults and two children.

For a bath with a view

Suite Peler · 40 m²

A second-floor suite with a large lake-facing terrace and a bath positioned for the outlook, as well as a shower. Choose it for a couple’s stay centred on the view; its open bathroom design is worth considering if sharing with children.

For a smaller room

Dolcevita · 23 m²

A second-floor double with a balcony and front or side lake views, suitable for two adults with space for a cot. If a suite is unavailable, this is our starting point. The separate Dolcevita Whirlpool category adds a terrace whirlpool on the first floor.

A leisurely start

Buffet breakfast is served at the hotel before you head into town, take a boat or set out for Monte Baldo. The bright breakfast room offers a comfortable place to linger over coffee.

Through the day

Sunbathing and swimming

The lakeside lawn and sunbathing area are useful places to pause between outings. Guests can also use the pool at sister hotel Luna Rossa nearby; this is a shared facility at a separate property, rather than a pool at Castello itself.

Evening

Dinner overlooking the water

Al Bacio serves dinner on its lake-view terrace, with the outlook visible from every table. It is an appealing option for an evening at the hotel, while Malcesine’s restaurants are close enough to explore on foot.

Location and logistics

Old town walks, boat trips and Monte Baldo

Explore Malcesine’s lanes, harbour and Scaliger Castle on foot. The Monte Baldo cable-car station is around 150 metres from the hotel, making it easy to plan a day above the lake, with walking routes chosen to suit your pace.

Arrive by road, explore locally on foot

Malcesine has no railway station. We can arrange a transfer from the airport or a suitable rail stop, then plan local outings around boats and walking. For wider touring, the hotel has private parking and a garage.

The final approach crosses a short restricted-traffic zone; the hotel registers your number plate at check-in, and we provide the arrival instructions. The featured room categories list lift access, but tell us if you need a fully step-free route so we can check the chosen room and shared areas.

Where it fits

Pair Lake Garda with riverside villages or the Dolomites

Combine Malcesine with Borghetto sul Mincio and Valeggio for riverside walks, cycling and a different pace south of the lake. A stay in Verona adds art, architecture and evenings in the city.

For a mountain contrast, continue to Alta Badia or San Vigilio di Marebbe for summer walks and time among the Dolomites. Around ten nights usually works well with two bases; with a fortnight, a third stop can fit without rushing the lake stay.
