The ExpertoItaly view

A village base with much to come back to

We have selected Dolomites Lifestyle Hotel Marmolada for the way it brings a walking holiday and the pleasures of a good hotel together. Its central Corvara position puts cafés, shops and mountain lifts within a short walk; the pool, spa and wine bar give the afternoons and evenings a character of their own.

The Costamoling family’s interest in food and wine is a particular reason to stay. Toccami welcomes people from the village as well as hotel guests, while the bedrooms range from contemporary Alpine doubles to suites with separate living space.

Our recommendation: give Marmolada a week. Mix meadow walks and a guided mountain day with leisurely lunches, a swim and time to explore the wine list.

Who it suits

For couples who enjoy being out and coming back

Three good reasons to make Marmolada your Alta Badia base.

Walking & wellbeing

Active couples

Spend the day on the trails, then return to a substantial spa, an indoor swim and dinner. The balance works well when mountain days are the focus, with time to relax between them.

Food & wine

Curious diners

Combine South Tyrolean and Ladin cooking with a wine bar and a cellar of more than 900 labels. Wine becomes part of the holiday, alongside the scenery.

Freedom & company

Independent explorers

Plan your own walks and village outings, joining the summer guided programme when you would enjoy local knowledge or a group ride. You can vary the rhythm through the week.

Rooms & suites

Choose the space that changes your stay

For couples, Ammonite is a sensible starting point; Daonella adds room to settle in for a week. The larger suites offer more separation or a distinctive setting for a special occasion.

Our choice for a week

The extra sitting space makes a difference on a longer stay, giving you somewhere to read or pause between an outing and dinner. A balcony and shower bathroom complete this practical upgrade.

Separate living space

New Sassongher Suite

Introduced for winter 2026/27, the redesigned suite has a bedroom and separate living room. Choose it when having two distinct spaces matters more than simply a larger bedroom.

A four-poster bed, panoramic sitting area and double shower give Coral a more individual character. It is an appealing choice for an anniversary or a mountain holiday with more time at the hotel.

For a further step up, the 60 m² Nautilus Luxury Suite occupies the top floor, with separate bedroom and living room, balconies off both and a freestanding bath. We can help you weigh the extra space against how you plan to spend your days.

Food & wine

Breakfast for the trails, dinner to linger over

Bed and breakfast and half board are available. For a walking holiday, we would usually suggest half board: breakfast and dinner at the hotel, with lunch wherever the day takes you. Bed and breakfast leaves more evenings free for Alta Badia’s restaurants.

Breakfast includes homemade pastries, eggs and crêpes prepared in the open kitchen, and fresh fruit and vegetable smoothies. Afternoon cakes and snacks make a welcome return from the mountains. Dinner brings Ladin and South Tyrolean dishes together with Italian and Mediterranean cooking.

Toccami and the wine cellar

The public wine bar adds a sociable village element to the hotel. Host and sommelier Iwan Costamoling’s cellar spans more than 900 labels, and tastings can be arranged separately. Leave an evening for discovering a South Tyrolean producer or comparing wines from elsewhere in Italy.

Pool & spa

A proper pause between mountain days

The 800 m² spa is a substantial part of Marmolada’s appeal. Swim in the 16-metre heated indoor pool with water jets, spend time in the outdoor whirlpool, or settle into one of the two relaxation areas.

The sauna circuit includes Finnish and bio saunas, a Turkish bath and a calidarium. Massages and beauty treatments are available to book separately.

We would leave some afternoons unplanned: a short morning walk and a long spa visit can be just as satisfying as a full day in the mountains.

Summer days

Meadow paths, mountain huts and guided outings

Corvara gives you access to lift-assisted walking, high meadows and mountain huts for lunch. Alternate an independent walk with a guided outing, then use a quieter day for village browsing and the pool.

From mid-June to September, the hotel’s complimentary weekly Bike & Hike programme includes guided walks and mountain-bike, road-bike and e-bike outings. Activities are for guests aged 15 and over, with advance reservation; equipment hire is extra.

Cyclists have bike storage, a washing area and basic maintenance facilities. For walkers, Nordic walking poles are available to borrow.

Location & getting around

Stay in Corvara, explore the valley

Hotel Marmolada stands on Strada Col Alt in central Corvara. Shops, cafés and lifts are close enough to reach on foot, making village life an easy part of the stay.

A car-free stay can work well

We can arrange a private transfer from Brunico or Bressanone railway station, or from your previous accommodation. Corvara has no railway station of its own. Once here, combine walking, local buses, summer lifts and selected guided outings.

A car adds freedom for wider touring

Driving is useful if you want to explore other valleys and mountain passes independently. The hotel includes garage parking. For a holiday focused on Corvara and its surrounding walking country, an arranged arrival transfer is often the more relaxed choice.

A city or lake before the mountains

Choose one contrast and give it time. We will shape the order of the journey and the transfers around your dates, interests and arrival point.

City views in Verona

City evenings & culture

Verona

Begin with Roman sights, riverside walks and evenings in the city, then make the change to Corvara’s mountains and cooler high meadows.

Colourful buildings beside Malcesine harbour on Lake Garda

Lake days & mountain walks

Lake Garda

Add boat trips, waterfront lunches and time in the lakeside towns. A longer lake stay makes a satisfying partner to a week of walking in Alta Badia.

The Grand Canal in Venice

Art & a change of pace

Venice

Spend a few days exploring galleries, neighbourhoods and the lagoon before heading north for open landscapes, mountain huts and the spa.

Give the mountain stay a full week

For seven nights, we would usually keep one base in Corvara. With ten to fourteen nights, choose two bases: three nights in Verona followed by seven at Marmolada, or a week by Lake Garda and a week in the mountains. A third stop belongs in a longer journey with a clear reason for each move.
