The hotel occupies the restored convent tower of a fourteenth-century monastery. Stone walls, terracotta floors and individually furnished rooms give it plenty of character, while the owners’ welcome makes a small hotel feel personal. We particularly recommend it for couples and returning visitors who enjoy discovering southern Italy beyond its best-known stops.

The panoramic terrace is at the heart of the stay, from breakfast to an aperitivo at sunset. For dinner, the village’s restaurants are within easy walking distance. Marulivo has no full restaurant, pool, spa or private beach; days here revolve around the village, the coast and the places you choose to explore.

Arrive by train or explore by car

We can arrange a transfer from Pisciotta–Palinuro station, making a stay here possible without a car. For days exploring inland villages, Padula and the national park’s mountain scenery, a hire car gives you more freedom.

Stay for four nights, or linger longer

Four nights leave time for Pisciotta, a boat day and the beach, with leisurely meals in between. Three nights work for a shorter visit; five give you more room for inland discoveries and afternoons on the terrace.

We recommend a Superior Room for the pleasure of waking to a full sea view. The French balcony opens the room towards the coast, and the choice of a double or twin beds makes this a useful option for couples or friends.

Pisciotta’s lanes and restaurants are on your doorstep. Down at Marina di Pisciotta, the beach and small harbour add another side to the stay. You can walk downhill to the coast; the return is uphill, so a local transfer can make the journey back easier.

The village is known for its alici di menaica, anchovies caught with a traditional selective net and recognised by Slow Food. Look out for them on local menus as you explore Pisciotta’s food traditions.

Pisciotta–Palinuro station is around eight kilometres from the hotel. Station and beach shuttles are offered at an additional charge. We can plan your arrival and useful train excursions as part of the holiday, including a visit to Paestum’s Greek temples.

A car opens up the wider national park: Padula, inland villages and mountain scenery, as well as beaches beyond the railway. In spring and early summer, Sassano’s Valley of the Orchids adds a rewarding day for those interested in flowers, walking and photography. We provide arrival, parking and luggage instructions for the hotel’s historic-centre setting.

Access and families: Marulivo has historic stairs and exposed terraces, and is unsuitable for guests requiring step-free access or children under eight.

Naples, Cilento and Maratea

Begin with three nights in Naples for its museums, neighbourhoods and food. Follow with four nights in Pisciotta, then three or four in Maratea for swimming and the dramatic Basilicata coastline. The journey moves steadily south, with a different setting at each stop.

Archaeology and food

Naples, Paestum and southern Cilento

Allow three nights in Naples, two or three near Paestum and four or five in Pisciotta. There is time for the Greek temples and local food around Paestum before settling into village life and the coast further south.

Two sides of the coast

Amalfi Coast, Pisciotta and Maratea

Spend four nights in Sorrento or on the Amalfi Coast, four in Pisciotta and three in Maratea. Familiar coastal views give way to the Cilento’s quieter villages, followed by a few more days beside the sea in Basilicata.
