The ExpertoItaly view

A mountain holiday with a comfortable village base

We like La Majun for the way it brings an active week together. Stay close to La Villa’s lifts and walking routes, then return to a hotel where the pool, a quiet lounge and an interesting wine list give you good reasons to leave some afternoons free.

The Rinna Mellauner family has developed the hotel over three generations. Natural wood, family artwork and carefully chosen furnishings give the interiors their character, while the mountains remain part of the outlook from many rooms.

For a couple, we would begin with a Junior Suite Cirmolo or Alpine. Both make a longer stay more comfortable; the choice comes down to the room’s style and the mountains you would like to look towards.

Our starting point: seven nights in La Villa, with a mix of guided outings, independent walks and leisurely lunches in the mountains.

Who it suits

For people who enjoy their days outdoors

Active couples

Walk, cycle, then unwind

A full mountain day can sit alongside a shorter walk, a long lunch and an afternoon in the spa. La Majun gives both kinds of day a comfortable starting point.

Food & wine

A regional interest beyond the trails

Ladin cooking, South Tyrolean wines and summer cookery classes give food-minded travellers something to build into the week alongside walking.

Families with older teenagers

Shared activities, separate bedrooms

The Family Suite offers two sleeping rooms, while guided walking and cycling outings give parents and older teenagers activities to enjoy together.

Rooms & suites

Choose the outlook and the space you will use

For a summer week, we favour a balcony and room to sit comfortably after an outing. These are the choices we would put at the centre of your proposal.

Junior Suite Cirmolo
Junior Suite Cirmolo: the refurbished sleeping and sitting space.

Our couples’ starting point

Junior Suite Cirmolo

Refurbished in spring 2026, with Swiss pine interiors, air conditioning and a balcony towards Gardenaccia and/or Sassongher. The bathroom has both a bath and a shower.

Junior Suite Alpine

For a south-facing balcony

Junior Suite Alpine

Natural wood, a sitting area and a balcony facing Piz La Villa and the Sella group. A good choice for couples who want to spend part of each afternoon enjoying the outlook.

Family Suite

For separate sleeping rooms

Family Suite

On the top floor, with two bedrooms and one bathroom. One bedroom has a double bed; the second has a French double bed. Our first choice for families who value separate sleeping space.

Suite Conturines
A Conturines Suite bathroom with a mountain outlook.

For a separate living room

Suite Conturines

A bedroom and separate lounge with a sofa bed, plus a south-west-facing balcony towards Piz La Villa and Lavarella. Choose it when extra living space matters during a longer stay.

Two more choices for couples

Comfort Cirmolo offers a more compact starting point, with air conditioning and a mountain-facing balcony. For more time outdoors in your own space, the Loft Suite has a generous loggia on the top floor of the hotel’s extension.

Summer days

A week of walks, cycling and mountain lunches

Lift-assisted walks and a choice of mountain huts make it easy to vary the day. Go further with a guide, spend a morning on a plateau trail, or make lunch the centre of the outing.

On foot

Make use of the lifts

La Villa’s position gives access to higher walking areas as well as valley routes. Combine independent days with guided walks, allowing time for a mountain-hut lunch along the way.

On two wheels

Road rides and e-bike outings

Road cyclists can explore the Dolomite passes; mountain-bike and e-bike routes offer other ways into the landscape. The hotel has a bike room and lends Nordic walking poles free of charge.

Included programme

Go out with local guides

The hotel’s guided walking and cycling programme runs from mid-June to September for guests aged 15 and over. Outings are free and booked in advance; equipment hire is charged separately.

Food & wine

Breakfast, Ladin cooking and a well-chosen bottle

Food gives the stay its regional character, from breakfast before a walk to an evening exploring South Tyrolean wines.

Morning & afternoon

A useful rhythm for summer days

Breakfast includes homemade pastries and freshly prepared eggs and crêpes. Sweet afternoon treats are served from 2pm to 6pm: a welcome return after a walk and lunch in the mountains.

Your dining arrangement

Bed and breakfast or half board

Choose bed and breakfast for evenings exploring La Villa’s restaurants, or half board for dinner at the hotel. The cooking brings together Italian, Alpine and Ladin influences, with seasonal ingredients.

Wine & cookery

Take an interest in the region

The wine bar’s selection of more than 600 labels is chosen by owner Carlo Mellauner. Summer cookery classes on the terrace introduce Ladin recipes with South Tyrolean wines; these are an additional, separately priced experience.

Pool & spa

Leave an afternoon for Agana

The 800 m² spa gives quieter days a purpose of their own. Swim in the heated indoor pool, spend time in the Finnish saunas or steam bath, then settle in one of the relaxation areas.

Large windows around the pool keep the mountains in view. Whirlpool and Kneipp facilities add to the choice, while wood and local stone continue the hotel’s Alpine character.

Spa access, a bathrobe and towel are included in the stay. Massages and beauty treatments can be added separately.

Location & getting around

La Villa as your summer base

Village life and the mountains together

La Majun is on Via Colz in central La Villa, close to the lifts and walking routes. It is a practical position for combining time in the village with outings across Alta Badia, including Corvara and San Cassiano.

Use our Alta Badia holiday ideas and Alta Badia summer guide to explore the area and decide how to spend your week.

With a car or with arranged transfers

A hire car adds flexibility for exploring neighbouring valleys and travelling onwards to a lake or city. The hotel includes a garage space.

A car-free stay can work with private arrival and departure transfers, local buses and summer lifts. ExpertoItaly can arrange the road journey from a suitable railway station or your previous accommodation, and plan the stay around the summer transport network.

Add a lake or an Italian city

Choose a second base that brings a different kind of day. We plan the journey between stays as carefully as the time at each hotel.

Lake Garda

Lake days & mountain walks

Lake Garda

Pair Alta Badia with Malcesine for swimming, boat trips and evenings beside the lake. A fortnight allows a week in each setting, with time to enjoy both hotels.

Verona

Culture & city evenings

Verona

Begin with three nights of Roman history, art and restaurants in Verona, followed by a week in La Villa. The longer mountain stay keeps the pace comfortable.

Venice

Art & a change of pace

Venice

Combine canals, galleries and neighbourhood walks with a longer Dolomites stay. A private road transfer makes the move between Venice and Alta Badia straightforward.

Give the mountains a full stay

For seven nights, we would keep La Majun as your one base. For ten to fourteen nights, choose two bases, with the longer stay in Alta Badia when walking and cycling are the priority. A third stop belongs only in a route that still leaves time to enjoy each place.
