The garden and bay shape the holiday
Fortino Napoleonico has a distinctive relationship with its setting. Thick stone walls, a courtyard and sea-facing terraces sit between the wooded Conero landscape and Portonovo Bay. The private garden lets you spend much of the day close to the water.
We see it as a relaxing coastal stay after a cultural visit inland. The shared outdoor spaces are the principal reason to choose it. Bedroom outlooks need care: a waterfront address does not guarantee a sea-view room, and much of the fort’s accommodation has a different orientation.
Our starting point: Four or five nights in a Superior or Junior Suite, with time for swimming, reading and dinner overlooking the bay.

The private sunbathing area is primarily lawned garden. Sea access crosses a narrow stony shore; this is a different experience from a sandy-beach lido.

Arranged transfers from Ancona suit guests focused on the hotel and bay. A car is useful for independent regional exploring.

The shore is pebbly and stony. A walkway helps with sea entry, while the garden’s planted-filtration biopool provides an alternative. We assess access individually rather than assuming it suits everyone.

Regional cooking and seafood suit the setting, with outdoor dining in appropriate weather. We check restaurant operation and any functions affecting terrace use for your stay.
Location and getting around
Portonovo, beneath Monte Conero
The hotel sits beside Portonovo Bay within the Conero landscape. It suits a holiday focused on swimming and the shoreline, with occasional outings towards Ancona, Sirolo or the surrounding area. The bay’s seasonal popularity is worth considering when choosing dates.
Private transfers can make a car-free hotel-and-bay stay work well. A car gives you more freedom for wider exploration, but you need not drive every day. We arrange the arrival and onward journey to match the preceding accommodation and preferred pace.
