ExpertoItaly opinion

A quieter base for beach, nature and ancient Sicily

Villa Lea Marina looks across open countryside towards the sea near the protected Torre Salsa coast. It is private and rural rather than resort-like: a good fit for families who value space, peace and independent days out over walk-to-everything convenience.

The two floors are connected only by an external staircase and each has its own kitchen and living space. That makes the house particularly useful for a multigenerational family or two couples travelling with children, while still keeping shared pool, terrace and dining time at the centre of the holiday.

Best for: six guests travelling as a family or two couples with children. A seventh can use the sofa bed, but the bedroom layout is not designed for four adult couples.

  • Setting: Torre Salsa countryside
  • Villa: 180 m² over two floors

Before you choose it

The principal planning decisions

Two semi-independent floors

The levels have separate kitchens and living rooms and are linked only by an outdoor staircase. This suits groups who appreciate independence, but parents should consider how they allocate younger children at night.

Six proper beds, plus one

There are two double bedrooms and two single bedrooms. The seventh place is a sofa bed in the ground-floor lounge, so six guests is the most comfortable arrangement.

A car is essential

The beach and nearest restaurant are about 4 km away and Montallegro’s shops are around 5 km away. The final approach includes roughly 750 metres of unmade road.

A compact, uniformly deep pool

The private pool measures 8 × 2.5 metres and is 1.2 metres deep throughout. It is well suited to cooling off and relaxed family time rather than serious lap swimming.

Location

Where wild coast, archaeology and country roads meet

Villa Lea Marina sits in the countryside behind Torre Salsa, one of southern Sicily’s most unspoilt stretches of coast. The setting feels deliberately removed: olive-toned hills, wide skies and glimpses towards the sea rather than a built-up resort.

A car opens the area properly. Quiet beach mornings can be paired with the temples of Agrigento, seafood and ceramics in Sciacca, or a longer westward day towards Selinunte and Menfi. The nearest beaches are about 4 km away, but the rural roads and final unmade approach mean they are not practical on foot.

From the villa

Four southern Sicily days worth planning

Villa Lea Marina works best as a peaceful base between selected outings. These choices balance coast, archaeology and nearby towns without turning the week into a driving holiday.

Classical Sicily

Give the Valley of the Temples a proper morning

Reach Agrigento early for its remarkable ridge of Greek temples, then return through the quieter inland countryside.

Nature and coast

Keep Torre Salsa distinct from an ordinary beach day

Plan time for a picnic, sea swim and walk along this protected, undeveloped coastline rather than treating it as a quick stop.

Coastal town

Combine Sciacca with Menfi

Pair Sciacca’s harbour, ceramics and seafood with the vineyards and broad beaches around Menfi.

Longer western route

Continue towards Selinunte

For a longer archaeological day, follow the coast to Selinunte and turn the drive into part of a wider western Sicily route.
