Open the terrace doors, take your time over breakfast and walk down to the boats for a day on the lake. La Luna nel Porto combines the independence of an apartment with the convenience of a small hotel, close to Stresa’s old town.

There are just twelve suites, with colourful interiors, wooden floors and room to sit as well as sleep. Outside, a garden and panoramic communal terrace look across Lake Maggiore; the café lounge offers another place to pause between outings.

We particularly like it for couples who want a settled, car-free base and a worthwhile private outdoor space. Our first choice is a Lake View Suite with a large terrace, with the precise layout agreed when we book. Families with older children can make good use of the two-bedroom Cosy Suite.

Our starting point: five to seven nights for island visits, lake journeys and time in your suite.

All suites have air conditioning, Wi-Fi and an equipped kitchen with induction hob, dishwasher and microwave. The important differences are the lake outlook, the outdoor space and whether sleeping and living areas are separate.

For couples, start with a Lake View Suite

A large terrace makes a real difference if you enjoy breakfast outside or an afternoon at the residence. Suites within the same category vary: tell us whether a separate bedroom, terrace or balcony matters most, and we will check the individual allocation.

For a shorter or simpler stay

Junior Suite · 35 m²

A double bed, single sofa bed and sitting area share a studio-style space, with a concealed kitchen and a terrace offering a partial lake view. A useful choice for couples who want outdoor space and easy access to Stresa without moving up to the larger suites.

Our first choice for couples

Suite Lake View · 55–70 m²

These larger suites have either an open-plan layout or a separate bedroom and living room. Outdoor space varies between a private courtyard, a large terrace and three balconies. We would prioritise a large terrace for time outside and a separate bedroom if you keep different hours.

For two bedrooms and two bathrooms

Cosy Suite Lake View · 70 m²

On the top floor, this apartment has two bedrooms, a living room and an upper sitting area, with one bathroom on each level. Porthole windows frame the lake from upstairs. The internal staircase is part of the layout, making it a better match for guests comfortable with steps; we check bedding for your party.

Choose your breakfast

The residence offers a light Italian breakfast of a hot drink, croissant and juice, or a fuller breakfast with local cheeses and meats, cakes, yoghurt and fruit. We specify the breakfast arrangement in your holiday proposal.

During the day

The freedom of your own space

Daily housekeeping adds hotel convenience to the apartment format. Read on the communal terrace, spend time in the garden or return to your suite between excursions. Your kitchen gives you the option of a simple meal at home.

Evening

Stresa’s restaurants close by

Walk into the old town for dinner and choose where to eat as the mood takes you. This is one of the pleasures of the location: evenings can be easy and independent, with no need to organise a drive back from a restaurant.

Location and logistics

Island gardens and lake journeys from Stresa

The residence is on Corso Italia, beside the lakeside road and close to the old town. The boat pier is a short walk away, so exploring the lake can be part of the everyday rhythm of your stay.

Set aside a day for the Borromean Islands: palace rooms and gardens on Isola Bella, lunch on Isola dei Pescatori and the gardens of Isola Madre. Spread the visits across separate days if you prefer a slower pace.

Arrive by rail; explore without a hire car

Stresa is on the Milan–Domodossola railway. We can arrange the final transfer from the station or a private transfer from Milan Malpensa. Once here, the town and boat departures make a car-free stay straightforward.

If you are touring by car, nearby public parking is charged during the day. We check parking and arrival arrangements for your dates.

Where it fits

Add a city stay or time in the mountains

Combine Stresa with Milan for art, design and restaurants, travelling between the two by train. Turin offers a different city stay, with museums, grand squares and café culture.

For a stronger change of scenery, continue to Cogne and Gran Paradiso for Alpine walks, using a car or private transfer for the mountain stage. Our Lake Maggiore and Gran Paradiso holiday is a useful starting point.

For ten to fourteen nights, two well-chosen bases usually give you time to enjoy both. We will shape the balance and transport around how you like to travel.

After several discussions with him we decided to have an eleven day trip to the Amalfi coast and Ischia and thanks to his intimate knowledge of the area we had a most enjoyable and memorable time. Ischia in particular was absolutely wonderful. Antonios advice on the boutique hotels, guided tours, and places to visit were exemplary as were the drivers he booked to ferry us around. In addition to all the knowledge and advice he provides, this time, we encountered a  couple of problems of our own making, but a quick WhatsApp to Antonio and within 24 hours both problems were solved. We wanted to visit 3 locations, he provided recommendations on accomodations which were great - really good locations for each booking.  He also coordinated taxis and trains and provided a load of suggestions for each location for places to eat and sites to visit.  He was readily available to answer any questions we had by email or WhatsApp. His assistance really helped us in planning this trip and saved us a lot of stress in trying to coordinate this ourselves. All in all we had a great holiday
