A small villa with a personality of its own

White Lilac brings together the pleasures of a private villa stay: individual rooms, breakfast before a day out, and a garden where you can settle beside the pool. Set in Dagnente, above Arona, this adults-only B&B suits couples who enjoy exploring Lake Maggiore and having somewhere personal to return to.

The restored period house has five bedrooms and the Cortese apartment. High ceilings, old tiles and vintage furniture sit alongside contemporary art, giving each space its own identity. The garden and terraces look towards the lake and Angera Castle; the outlook from your room depends on which one you choose.

We like White Lilac for its small scale, individual interiors and the balance it offers between sightseeing and time at the property. It is a particularly good match for independent couples travelling by car, with lake towns, gardens and village walks to explore at their own pace.

This 24 m² first-floor double has the property’s best outlook over Lake Maggiore, Angera Castle and the pool. Original tiles from 1910 and antique furnishings give it period character. Our first choice for couples who want the view to be part of their stay.

For garden access

Erbaluce

A 24 m² ground-floor double with a semi-private garden patio, an outlook towards Angera Castle and a bathroom with a double shower. Choose it for the connection with the garden and an outdoor place to sit.

For space and period details

Albalux Superior

At 30 m², Albalux is the largest bedroom. High ceilings, restored period features and a stove give it a distinctive interior, with a garden outlook. A good choice when the room itself matters as much as the view.

For a more independent stay

Cortese apartment

A 28 m² apartment with a private entrance, terrace and kitchen. Its two-level layout separates the bedroom from the living space, with internal stairs between them. We would choose it for couples who want the option of eating in.

For a four-poster bed

Bramaterra

A 29 m² first-floor double with a four-poster bed and antique wooden furniture. Windows on two sides take in the garden and pool, with a glimpse of the lake. Choose it for its generous space and furnishings.

For a patio and afternoon sun

Prunent

A 25 m² double with a garden outlook and a semi-private patio that catches the afternoon sun. A natural choice for couples who value outdoor sitting space and a quieter garden setting.

Take your time over breakfast before setting out for the lake. It is an easy way to start the day, with the personal feel of a small B&B and the owners on hand to share ideas for exploring.

Pool, garden and sauna

The outdoor pool, garden seating and sauna give you reasons to leave an afternoon free. The restoration uses materials including hemp, clay and straw, retaining the villa’s older features while adding modern comfort.

Head out for dinner

Arona offers a useful choice of restaurants for evenings by the lake. In Dagnente, the owners recommend nearby Arca di Noè for lunch. For dinner, plan on driving or a pre-arranged taxi; we can help fit restaurant evenings around your outings.

Location and logistics

Lake towns, island gardens and woodland walks

Start close to home with a walk through Dagnente and the woodland paths behind the village. Arona brings a different pace, with its waterfront, shops and restaurants, while Angera Castle provides a reason to explore the opposite shore.

Allow a full day for Stresa and the Borromean Islands, combining boat journeys with palace and garden visits. Lake Orta makes another rewarding outing, with Orta San Giulio’s lanes, lakeside square and island.

A hillside base best enjoyed with a car

White Lilac is in Dagnente above Arona, with private parking. A hire car gives you flexibility for excursions and evening meals. You can also arrive in Northern Italy by train, enjoy a city stay, then collect a car for the lake.

If you prefer private transfers, we will plan transport for outings and dinners as part of the holiday. For anyone who needs to avoid steps, we will check the full route to the chosen room and shared facilities; a ground-floor bedroom alone does not establish step-free access.

Combine the lake with a city or the mountains

Begin with Turin for museums, cafés and squares, or Milan for galleries, architecture and restaurants, before collecting a car for Lake Maggiore. For a mountain contrast, continue to Cogne and Gran Paradiso for Alpine scenery and walks.
