An Etna estate that works best when the villa itself is part of the holiday

Villa Otto is a restored lava-stone farmhouse in the countryside near Zafferana Etnea. Its appeal is not walkability but the amount of private space: a 12 × 6-metre saltwater pool, indoor wellness rooms, an outdoor kitchen and dining loggia, a gym, a football area and a 3,000 m² garden.

For two related families or a multigenerational group, the three-building layout gives useful privacy while keeping everyone within one estate. We rate it most strongly for six to nine guests; the tenth sleeping place is a single sofa bed in the Casetta.

Our honest verdictA strong choice for active children, grandparents or a couple who value some separation, and for autumn, Easter or Christmas stays when the heated spa pool and wellness rooms earn their keep. A car is essential.

What to know before you commit

Villa Otto can be excellent for the right group, but the sleeping arrangements, separate buildings and running-cost terms matter more than the headline capacity.

Best group shape

Think of this as three proper bedrooms in the Manor House, a loft double with a single sofa bed in the Casetta, and one double in the Dependance. It is not five equivalent double bedrooms. The Dependance and the exact booking configuration should be confirmed for your dates.

Car and setting

The villa is about 4 km from Zafferana Etnea's shops and restaurants, 9 km from the nearest rocky coast and 15 km from sandy beaches. A car is essential for groceries, meals out and days on Etna or the coast.

Stairs and split layout

The accommodation is divided between separate buildings. The Casetta has a loft reached by stairs, so this is not our first choice for very young children, sleepwalkers or guests with reduced mobility.

Terms and consumption

Most dates have a four-night minimum; Christmas and New Year require seven nights. There is a €500 cash security deposit and no pets. Up to 400 kWh of electricity is included; extra use is €0.50 per kWh, including air conditioning, while heating is charged by consumption.

Sleeping arrangements

Five bedrooms across three separate buildings

The layout creates privacy between family units, but it should be matched to the ages and relationships in your party rather than judged only by the ten-person maximum.

Double bedroom in Villa Otto's Manor House

Manor House

One double bedroom, one bedroom that can be arranged as a twin or double, and one single bedroom. All three are en suite. This is the most practical base for the main family group.

Loft double bedroom in the Casetta at Villa Otto

Casetta

An open loft double above the living area, plus one single sofa bed downstairs and a shower room. Better for parents with one child than for an adult couple seeking complete bedroom privacy.

Double bedroom in the separate Dependance at Villa Otto

Dependance

A separate double bedroom with an en-suite shower room. It can work especially well for grandparents or a couple travelling with the wider family. Availability is confirmed for the exact booking dates.

Overall capacityFive bedrooms and six bathrooms across the estate, sleeping up to ten. The strongest comfort fit is usually six to nine guests.

Eastern Sicily

Between Zafferana, the Ionian coast and Mount Etna

Villa Otto sits in the countryside on Etna's eastern side, close enough for food-and-wine days, volcanic landscapes and the coast, but deliberately outside a walkable town.

Zafferana Etnea is about 4 km away for shops and restaurants. The nearest rocky coastline is approximately 9 km away, sandy beaches about 15 km, Catania 20 km and Taormina 40 km. Catania airport is approximately 37 km from the villa.

Distances are a better guide than fixed driving times on Etna: local roads, the coast and the access point chosen for a volcanic excursion all affect the journey.
