The ExpertoItaly view

A garden retreat with more than one way to stay

The park is the reason to choose Villa Belvedere. Lawns, flowering shrubs and shaded corners give you room to spread out, while the pool looks towards the wooded slopes around Cannobio. This is somewhere to spend part of the day at the hotel, between outings around Lake Maggiore.

The accommodation has several distinct characters. Individually decorated rooms offer a traditional hotel stay; the stone-built Rustico brings timber balconies and apartments with kitchenettes; Poesia and Eden offer contemporary interiors and private gardens. Choosing the right room makes a real difference here.

We would particularly consider Villa Belvedere for couples who want a garden and pool alongside their lake excursions. The apartment option also suits travellers who prefer a separate living area and the freedom to prepare a simple meal.

Our starting point: four or five nights, with time for Cannobio, an excursion further along the lake and an unhurried afternoon in the park.

Planning your stay

Is Villa Belvedere right for you?

Best for

Couples who enjoy a garden base

A good balance of lake outings and time at the hotel, with particularly appealing private outdoor space in the garden suites.

Atmosphere

Green space and individual interiors

Choose between traditional rooms, the stone-and-timber Rustico and contemporary suites. The park links the different buildings and gives the stay its character.

Transport

A car adds flexibility

Free parking and an electric-vehicle charging point make self-drive holidays practical. A car is useful for exploring the Cannobina Valley and combining lake towns at your own pace.

Stay length

Leave time for the hotel

Four or five nights work well within a longer journey; a week allows more excursions and quieter days beside the pool.

Rooms

Choose for garden space, layout and character

All rooms have air conditioning. The most useful distinctions are the building, the layout and the outdoor space. We will help match these to your priorities when requesting availability.

Our choices for a private garden

Poesia and Eden

These ground-floor suites have independent entrances and their own gardens, with broad windows connecting the double bedrooms to the greenery outside. Natural materials give the interiors a restrained, contemporary feel. Bathrooms have a freestanding bath, a chromotherapy shower and a separate WC; a rear window looks towards the woodland. Choose either for a couple’s stay where privacy and outdoor sitting space matter.

For two bedrooms and a split-level layout

Panorama

Panorama has a ground-floor double bedroom opening onto the garden, with a shower bathroom and separate WC. Upstairs are a second bedroom, balcony and private terrace, plus another bathroom with a freestanding bath. The separation is its chief advantage when you want two bedrooms. We will confirm the bed arrangement and occupancy for your party before recommending it.

For a kitchen and separate living space

Rustico apartments

The two apartments occupy the stone-and-timber Rustico. Downstairs, a living area with kitchenette opens towards the garden; upstairs are the bedroom and bathroom, with a balcony looking towards the Cannobina Valley. Choose one for the option of eating in and keeping your living and sleeping space separate. Internal stairs are part of the layout.

For stone, timber and traditional character

Rustico Superior rooms

The Rustico also contains two Superior rooms. Local stone, the traditional stone-slab roof and wooden balconies distinguish this building from the hotel’s more contemporary suites. These are worth considering if the setting and architectural character are your priorities.

For an individually furnished hotel stay

Main hotel rooms

Traditional fabrics, wooden furniture and differing colour schemes give these rooms their individual character. Balconies or terraces look into the park. Tell us whether outdoor space, a particular floor or the room’s arrangement matters most, and we will check the available category rather than assume that every room is the same.

Morning

The veranda and pergola

Breakfast is served as a buffet in the villa’s veranda, with the pergola used in summer. It is a pleasant start before heading out around the lake. Dietary requirements can be discussed when booking.

Through the day

Pool, park and a light lunch

The outdoor pool is advertised for May to September, with a hydromassage area, sunbathing space and towels. The snack bar serves light lunches such as salads, sandwiches and pasta. Elsewhere in the park, benches, hammocks and shaded sitting areas give you alternatives to a sunlounger.

Evening

Make Cannobio part of the stay

Plan evenings around Cannobio’s restaurants and waterfront. We will help arrange the balance between hotel time, excursions and meals out, including transport where needed. The hotel’s published food offering centres on breakfast and daytime snacks.

Location and logistics

Cannobio, the lake and the valleys behind it

Cannobio on the western shore of Lake Maggiore.

Villa Belvedere is in Cannobio, on Lake Maggiore’s western side towards the Swiss border. Spend time along the waterfront and in town, then look inland towards the Cannobina Valley for a different landscape of wooded slopes and mountain villages.

For a longer outing, head south towards Verbania and Villa Taranto’s gardens. A day devoted to the Borromean Islands is another option, planned around your transport and the boat timetable. Our Lake Maggiore holiday guide helps you decide which excursions fit the time you have.

Getting here and getting around

Free parking, an EV charging point, bicycle loan and bicycle storage are useful practical facilities. A car gives the most flexibility for the surrounding valleys and a wider touring holiday. If arriving by rail, include an onward transfer in your plans for Cannobio. For a stay without a car, we will plan arrivals and excursions around the journeys you want to make.

If access affects your choice, tell us at the outset so we can check the route to your particular room and the shared facilities.

Where it fits

Combine Lake Maggiore with Milan or the mountains

Start in Milan for galleries, architecture and restaurants before continuing to Cannobio. Alternatively, pair Lake Maggiore with Cogne and Gran Paradiso for a holiday combining lake scenery with Alpine walks. Lake Orta offers a smaller-scale lakeside contrast if you prefer to stay within the Italian Lakes.

We will shape the route around how much you want to explore and how often you want to change hotels.
