A Venetian palazzo worth coming back to

Heureka makes particular sense when you want your hotel to contribute to the holiday. The garden gives you somewhere to read or pause between outings, while colourful fabrics, contemporary furniture and restored architectural details give the interiors a character of their own.

Paintings by Julian Khol were created for the hotel. The two piani nobili, the palazzo’s grand principal floors, provide generous shared spaces, so the experience extends beyond the bedroom.

We recommend it especially for culturally curious couples and returning visitors who enjoy exploring neighbourhoods on foot. The trade-off is location: this is northern Cannaregio, away from the principal San Marco sightseeing area. You choose Heureka for its setting and atmosphere, with a little more walking built into the day.

Our starting point: three or four nights within a longer holiday, with a carefully chosen Grand Deluxe room or a canal-view suite and an afternoon left free for the garden.

Venice works on foot and by boat. A pre-arranged private water taxi is our preferred arrival with luggage; rail can take you onwards to another Italian city.

Possible with the right arrangement

The Heureka Suite offers two bedrooms and two bathrooms. We check occupancy, extra bedding and the children’s ages before recommending it for a family.

Be comfortable with the walking

Heureka is less suited to travellers who want St Mark’s Square immediately outside. Venice’s bridges and boat boarding also need consideration. Tell us about any access requirements before we select a room and plan your arrival.

Choose the outlook, layout and bathroom

Rooms are individually designed. Sizes overlap between categories, and a higher category does not automatically mean a much larger bedroom. We consider the specific room as well as its name.

Our recommendation

Grand Deluxe for the hotel; a suite for time in the room

We would start with Grand Deluxe for couples who value the garden and palazzo spaces. For a special stay, the 40 m² Suite with Canal View adds a stronger sense of Venice from the bedroom. Both featured 40 m² suite categories are open-plan, rather than offering a separate sitting room.

A smaller starting point

Deluxe · 20–28 m²

Individually furnished double rooms. Choose one when the wider hotel matters more than additional space; we check the particular layout and outlook rather than promising a canal view.

Our starting category

Grand Deluxe · 23–30 m²

Outlooks may be towards the garden, canal or northern lagoon. The size range overlaps with Deluxe, so we weigh up the view and bathroom alongside the upgrade cost. Two rooms in this category are listed as wheelchair accessible.

Suite with Canal View · 40 m²

An open-plan suite overlooking the Madonna dell’Orto canal, with a bath in the bedroom and a shower. Our first choice for a couple who want to spend more time enjoying the room. An additional bed is available on request.

For a garden outlook

Junior Suite with Garden View · 40 m²

An open-plan double with a bath in the bedroom, a shower and a garden outlook. A good alternative when the quieter green setting appeals more than watching the canal.

For two bedrooms

Heureka Suite · 110 m²

Available on request, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms with showers, a large living room and a canal outlook. The master bedroom also has a bath.

The hotel publishes a maximum occupancy of six, but lists two double beds. We confirm the bedding for a fifth or sixth guest before recommending the arrangement.

Photographs show individual rooms; decoration and layouts vary. The hotel lists air conditioning, Wi-Fi, safes and integrated sound systems. Tell us if a particular view, bathroom layout or access feature is essential.

Mature trees and shaded seating make the private garden a useful retreat in warmer weather. Indoors, the principal floors and music room offer places to sit. The appeal centres on these spaces, rather than pool or spa facilities.

The bar serves cocktails, wines and seasonal snacks or salads. Plan your main dinners around the neighbourhood’s trattorias and restaurants; we would confirm any special hotel dining arrangements for your dates.

Discover Cannaregio on foot

Heureka stands at Cannaregio 3534, on the Madonna dell’Orto canal. Nearby interests include Tintoretto’s paintings in Madonna dell’Orto, the Jewish Ghetto and the Misericordia area, with neighbourhood bars and restaurants within walking distance.

The hotel advertises direct water-taxi access from Venice’s station, airport and road arrival points. We arrange the transfer and confirm the landing details for your arrival.

Public transport

Public boats offer another option, followed by a walk: the hotel’s directions allow around ten minutes from the Madonna dell’Orto stop. We check current services when planning your journey.

Onward travel

Keep the car for the next stage

A car has no role during your Venice stay. If your route later needs one, collect it after Venice; otherwise we can link rail journeys and private transfers to your next base.

Access needs a room-by-room check

The hotel lists a lift and two wheelchair-accessible Grand Deluxe rooms. We still need to confirm the chosen room, bathroom, entrance and water-taxi boarding arrangements against your requirements, as well as the walking and bridges involved in sightseeing.

For seven nights, we generally recommend one base. For ten to fourteen nights, Venice and one contrasting stay usually work well. Add a third only when the route and available time justify the extra move.
