ExpertoItaly opinion

A large-group villa that earns its place through layout and location

Villa Elle has one of the most useful configurations in our western Sicily collection: five double bedrooms in the main house and two en-suite doubles in a nearby annex. It allows a group of fourteen to share the pool, gardens and terraces while giving grandparents, teenagers or two couples a little more independence.

The salt-pan setting is the villa’s distinctive feature. Windmills, birdlife and open views towards the Egadi Islands give the landscape a strong sense of place, while Trapani airport and harbour remain unusually convenient for a villa of this size.

Best for: multi-generational families, three or four families travelling together, adult friendship groups and milestone celebrations. It is less suitable for guests requiring twin bedrooms, lively surroundings or a sandy beach within walking distance.

Before you choose it

The principal planning decisions

Seven doubles, with no confirmed twins

All seven bedrooms are doubles. This works especially well for couples and adult groups, but it is not the right arrangement when several children or friends need twin beds.

Main house and annex

Five bedrooms are in the main house. The nearby annex contains two en-suite doubles, a shared kitchenette and its own patio, adding privacy without creating a completely separate second villa.

Salt-pan coast, not a beach villa

The rocky shoreline is about 450 metres away, but there is no documented private swimming access. The nearest sandy beach is approximately 6 km away, so beach days require a short drive.

A car remains essential

A restaurant is approximately 750 metres away, but shopping, sandy beaches and most excursions need a car. Private gated parking is provided, and Trapani airport is only 12 km away.

Practical note: electricity is included up to 400 kWh per week; additional use costs €0.40 per kWh and air conditioning counts towards the allowance. The security deposit is €500 in cash and pets are not permitted.

Four en suites and one adjacent shower room

The main house has one 180 × 200 cm double and three 160 × 190 cm doubles, each with an en-suite shower. A fifth double uses a separate adjacent shower room. All accommodation is arranged on the ground floor.

Two bedrooms in the annex

Two en-suite doubles with additional privacy

The annex has two further double bedrooms, each with an en-suite shower, plus a shared kitchenette and patio. Six of the seven bedrooms therefore have en-suite bathrooms; five bedrooms have mosquito nets.

Time at the villa

Pool, garden and enough room for fourteen

Villa Elle works because the outdoor spaces and practical facilities are proportionate to the group size, making unstructured days comfortable rather than crowded.

Location

Beside the salt pans, with western Sicily opening in several directions

Villa Elle is in Nubia, on the edge of the Trapani salt-pans nature reserve. The setting feels open and distinctive, yet the practical geography is unusually easy: Trapani harbour is 7 km away, the airport is 12 km away and Erice, Segesta, Marsala and the Egadi ferries all work naturally from this base.

The villa should be chosen for its pool, gardens, landscape and excursion potential rather than as a conventional beach property. Sandy beach days, food shopping and most evenings out require a car.

From the villa

Four western Sicily days worth planning

Villa Elle works best when pool days are balanced with a small number of purposeful outings. These guides help you decide what each day should contain—and what not to combine.

Salt pans and history

Give Trapani and the salt pans proper time

Combine the old town, market streets and salt-pan landscape without treating Trapani only as a ferry port. Erice can be added when timing and weather make the hill-town visit worthwhile.

Plan your Trapani day

Island day

Choose the right Egadi Island

Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo offer different rhythms. Ferry schedules, sea conditions and the group’s appetite for cycling, walking or boat time should determine the choice.

Explore the Egadi Islands guide

Temples, hill towns and wine

Choose between Erice, Segesta and Marsala

All three are accessible, but they need not be forced into one overloaded day. Use the wider western Sicily guide to decide whether archaeology, a hill town or Marsala wine country best suits the group.

Shape your western Sicily days

Sandy beach and coast

Plan San Vito Lo Capo and Zingaro deliberately

San Vito’s sandy beach and the Zingaro coast provide the clearest contrast to the salt pans. Summer traffic, parking and walking conditions should decide how much to combine.
