ExpertoItaly opinion

A strong pool-and-location combination near Noto

Villa Maranta stands in the countryside beside the Vendicari Nature Reserve, where a substantial garden, wide terraces and an unusually long saltwater pool give the stay a clear outdoor focus. Calamosche, Noto and Marzamemi are all close enough for practical half-day or evening outings.

The sleeping arrangement is more flexible than a conventional four-bedroom villa. Two first-floor doubles sit beside the principal kitchen and living room, while two ground-floor suites each have a living area, kitchenette and bathroom. This works particularly well for two families, adult friends or a multigenerational party that values a little independence.

Best for: eight guests travelling as two families or a group of friends, families with older children, and clients balancing pool time with beaches and the Val di Noto. Two extra guests can use sofa beds, but ten adults should not be treated as the villa’s strongest arrangement.

  • Setting: Vendicari countryside
  • Villa: approximately 200 m²
  • Garden: approximately 2,000 m²
  • Pool season: April–October

Before you choose it

The principal planning decisions

Eight comfortable places, plus two

The four main beds accommodate eight guests. Each ground-floor suite also contains a sofa bed, giving a maximum of ten, but these should be treated as supplementary places rather than two equivalent bedrooms for adults.

The split arrangement needs the right group

The principal kitchen, dining room and lounge are upstairs. One ground-floor suite has independent exterior access, so the layout suits adult friends, older children or two families better than young children sleeping separately from their parents.

A car is essential

The nearest restaurant is approximately 3 km away and Noto’s shops and restaurants are about 9 km away. Private parking is provided, and the villa is best used as a driving base for beaches and south-east Sicily.

A pool designed for proper swimming

The private saltwater pool measures 16 × 5 metres, with a depth ranging from approximately 0.20 to 1.50 metres. It is considerably larger than the pools at many four-bedroom villas and opens from April to October.

All four sleeping areas have their own shower room. A further first-floor bathroom with toilet and washbasin serves the principal living spaces, reducing pressure on the en-suites during the day.

Outdoor living leads the stay

The garden, long pool and several terraces make unstructured villa days easy, while the two-level interior gives different parts of the group room to follow their own rhythm.

Location

Between Vendicari, Noto and the south-east coast

Villa Maranta sits in open countryside beside the Vendicari Nature Reserve. This is the property’s defining commercial advantage: Calamosche and San Lorenzo provide straightforward beach days, while Noto and Marzamemi are close enough for markets, restaurants and evening visits.

Longer excursions remain realistic without turning the holiday into continuous touring. Syracuse is approximately 40 km away and Ragusa Ibla about 52 km away, so clients can choose a small number of purposeful cultural days and keep the rest of the week centred on the coast and villa.

From the villa

Four south-east Sicily days worth planning

Villa Maranta works best when pool and beach days are balanced with a small number of well-chosen outings. These guides help decide what deserves a full day and what can remain a shorter visit.

Nature and beach

Give Vendicari and Calamosche their own rhythm

Start early for walking or birdlife, then continue to Calamosche or another reserve beach. Avoid forcing Noto into the same hot middle of the day unless the group genuinely wants a long excursion.

Plan your south-east Sicily days

Baroque town

Use Noto for an afternoon and evening

Noto is close enough to visit after a relaxed morning at the villa. Late-afternoon light, a measured walk along Corso Vittorio Emanuele and dinner work better than treating it as an all-day museum exercise.

Explore the Val di Noto

Coast and food

Pair Marzamemi with the southern beaches

Marzamemi is useful for a waterfront meal or evening passeggiata. Combine it with San Lorenzo or Portopalo, keeping the day coastal rather than adding another inland Baroque town.

City and archaeology

Give Siracusa a proper cultural day

Ortigia and the Neapolis archaeological area deserve time. Choose the archaeology early, protect the hottest part of the day and leave space for the waterfront streets and evening atmosphere.
