ExpertoItaly opinion

A sea-view Plemmirio base that works best when the rooming is planned

Villa Ataga is a substantial modern compound in the Plemmirio marine reserve, south of Syracuse. The strongest reasons to choose it are the heated saltwater pool, the broad sea outlook and the way the accommodation separates into a main house, an independent apartment and two detached annex suites.

That structure is especially useful for two families, a multi-generational group or friends who are happy with different room types. We would normally plan it around eight adults and four children, or ten adults and two children, rather than present it as six equivalent adult suites.

  • More than 400 m² of interiors
  • Approx. 3,000 m² garden
  • Approx. 200 m² of terraces
  • Private heated saltwater pool
  • Rocky sea access around 500 m
  • Private parking on site

Best for: two families, multi-generational groups and mixed-age celebrations where separate sleeping zones are helpful.

Before you choose it

The principal planning decisions

It is not six equivalent couples’ suites

The best rooming uses the upper-floor king and double, the bunk room, the independent apartment and the two annex suites deliberately. We would agree who sleeps where before booking.

Three sleeping zones mean real separation

The ground-floor apartment is reached externally and the two king annex suites are detached from the main house. That adds privacy, but it also matters for families with young children and guests who prefer everyone under one roof.

The pool has a fixed 1.40 m depth

The 5 × 10 m saltwater pool is normally heated to 24–26°C and open from March to November, subject to reconfirmation. There is no shallow end, so it is not the easiest pool for toddlers or weak swimmers.

A car is essential

Rocky sea access is around 500 metres away, while the nearest sandy beach is about 5 km away. The house also works over several levels, so it is not our first choice for significant mobility limitations.

The true sleeping arrangement

Main house · upper floor

Three rooms for the core family group

A sea-facing king bedroom has its own shower room. A second double and a bunk bedroom share a separate shower room, and the floor opens to a broad terrace.

Detached bedroom annexes set behind Villa Ataga

Independent apartment and two annexes

Privacy for adults or a second family

The external-access apartment has a double bedroom, shower room, kitchenette, living space and sofa bed. Two detached annex suites each add a king bed, private shower room, minibar and patio.

Recommended configuration: 8 adults + 4 children, or 10 adults + 2 children. Maximum published capacity is 12 + 1, but the extra place is not equivalent to a full bedroom.

Time at the villa

Pool days, sea views and outdoor meals

Villa Ataga suits a villa-centred week, with enough kitchen, dining and lounging space for the group to live comfortably together without giving up private corners.

The focus of the day

The 5 × 10 m pool sits within a broad furnished terrace. Heating is normally 24–26°C during the March–November opening period, subject to conditions and reconfirmation.

A long shaded table gives the full group a proper place for breakfast and dinner outside, with the pool and coastline forming the backdrop.

Equipped outdoor kitchen and barbecue at Villa Ataga

Outdoor kitchen

Set up for sociable cooking

The external kitchen has generous preparation space, a sink, hob, refrigeration and barbecue, so cooking outside can be part of the evening rather than a separate task.

A substantial main living floor

The pool level brings together the main sitting room, dining area and kitchen, with enough scale for a full group and direct access to the terraces.

Different spaces through the day

Approximately 200 m² of terraces and a 3,000 m² garden create sun, shade and separation around the house, pool and annexes.

Location

Plemmirio, with Syracuse and the Baroque south-east by car

Villa Ataga sits in the Plemmirio marine reserve, south of Syracuse, with an open outlook across the coast. The immediate setting is residential and natural rather than resort-like: rocky sea access is close, daily essentials are nearby, and the most rewarding cultural days begin with a drive.

Ortigia gives the week its strongest city contrast, combining sea-facing lanes, restaurants, markets and archaeology. Noto, Marzamemi and the Val di Noto can be reached on purposeful day trips, but the villa is best used as a place to return to rather than a base for constant long-distance touring.
