Why Borgo La Pietraia
Borgo La Pietraia is a family-run country resort on the hillside above Paestum. Its twelve rooms, private outdoor spaces, panoramic pool and restaurant create a peaceful base that feels rural without placing the archaeology and coast beyond practical reach.
Its strength is the combination of scenery, small scale and food. Views extend across the Paestum plain towards the sea, while Pietre gives guests a genuinely good place to dine without driving each evening. Couples, food-focused travellers and families with school-age children or teenagers will appreciate the freedom to balance touring with an occasional day at the hotel.
We recommend it for travellers who want to explore northern Cilento by car and return to comfort, space and a strong sense of landscape. It also integrates more easily with Naples, the Amalfi Coast, Ischia, Basilicata or Puglia than bases farther south.
This is an intimate country resort rather than a conventional full-service luxury hotel. The beach, Paestum and village restaurants are not walkable, the pool is seasonal, and late arrivals must be agreed in advance. These practical limits are part of choosing a quiet hillside setting.
Planning your stay
The hillside position gives the hotel its views and tranquillity, but Paestum, the beach, Capaccio and surrounding restaurants all require driving or pre-arranged transport. Complimentary parking makes it a natural self-drive base.
This gives time for Paestum, a buffalo mozzarella producer, Agropoli or Castellabate, one inland Cilento day and time by the pool. Three nights works within a longer route; seven suits slower families who actively want hotel days.
The Junior Suite is our preferred balance of space, panoramic terrace and flexibility, particularly for families. The Private Suite suits couples prioritising seclusion, while the Deluxe Rooms provide a comfortable entry category with a garden outlook.
Only twelve rooms preserve the atmosphere but limit availability. Pool access is normally included from May to October, and we reconfirm exact seasonal dates. When tranquillity is central, we also check whether a private event coincides with the stay.

The current inventory comprises four Deluxe Rooms, seven Junior Suites and one Private Suite. The room names describe different priorities rather than a simple progression in size, so we select according to outlook, occupancy and privacy.

At Borgo La Pietraia
Pietre restaurantChef Mario Stellato leads a year-round restaurant shaped by seasonal produce, local traditions and a thoughtful emphasis on plant-based and healthy dishes. It is a central part of the stay, not simply a convenient hotel dining room.
Pool and solariumThe panoramic seasonal pool allows guests to pause between archaeological, coastal and countryside outings. It is particularly valuable for families and for longer stays that should not feel continuously programmed.
Private outdoor spaceEvery room has a private patio or terrace. In the sea-view categories, the broad outlook across the plain and coast becomes one of the strongest reasons to spend time at the hotel.
ExperiencesThe hotel can support walking, cycling, cooking and local food experiences, as well as boat outings departing from Agropoli. We select activities according to season, conditions and the pace of the wider itinerary.
Capaccio-Paestum and northern Cilento
The hotel sits on a quiet hillside above the Paestum plain. Nothing essential is within a useful stroll, so we normally plan arrival by hired car or private transfer and treat the property as a self-drive base. Complimentary parking removes one of the common practical complications of touring this part of Campania.
Paestum’s Greek temples and archaeological museum are approximately twenty minutes away by car. A buffalo mozzarella producer can be combined with the visit, while Capaccio, Trentinara, Agropoli, Castellabate and the beaches around Paestum support a varied four- or five-night stay.
For a deeper inland day, the Castelcivita caves and Alburni countryside add a different landscape. Along the coast, Agropoli provides access to boat outings towards Punta Licosa, while the hotel pool makes it possible to balance exploration with rest.
This northern Cilento position is particularly useful within a wider route: it is quieter than the Amalfi Coast, considerably closer to Paestum than bases around Palinuro, and straightforward to combine with Naples, Basilicata or Puglia by car.

Wider journey
Four or five nights gives the hotel a clear role rather than treating Paestum as a hurried stop. It works particularly well after a busier coastal base, when the route can slow down without losing access to archaeology, beaches and local food.
The most natural combinations move south from Naples or the Amalfi Coast. A car is the practical choice for the Borgo La Pietraia stay and becomes increasingly valuable when the journey continues into inland Cilento, Basilicata, Puglia or Calabria.
