A few days of village exploring and good food

Settle into Domodossola’s historic centre, step out for a day along the Vigezzina railway and return for dinner close to your room. Da Sciolla brings these pleasures together in a small inn on Piazza Convenzione, opposite Palazzo San Francesco and near Piazza Mercato.

The yellow-fronted building belongs to the life of the old town: balconies above the square, narrow lanes close by and cafés for a pause between outings. Inside, the bedrooms are individually furnished in a traditional style, with wood, patterned fabrics and simple sitting spaces.

We recommend it for independent couples and friends who want to explore the valley villages without changing hotels each night. The family-run restaurant gives the stay a particular focus, with cooking rooted in the Ossola area.

Our starting point: three nights, giving you two full days for the railway villages and time to enjoy Domodossola itself.

Two nights give you one full day out. We favour three for two unhurried days, followed by a separate lake or city stay.

The six bedrooms have private bathrooms with a bath or shower, a sitting area, kettle, fridge and television. The inn also offers two apartments. Photographs below show examples of the interiors; we confirm the particular room or apartment offered for your dates.

For a short stay, our priority is a comfortable bedroom with the bed arrangement and bathroom you prefer. If you enjoy reading or resting between outings, ask us to give more weight to the sitting space. The outlook is towards the historic town; the mountain scenery comes during your days exploring.

Choose according to the individual layout, room position and your preference for a shower or bath. We can request a quieter position where available and check the floor and approach if stairs affect your choice.

A continental breakfast gives you a straightforward start before heading into the valley. We will check breakfast times against any early departure you have planned.

Cooking from the Ossola valleys

The Patrone family’s restaurant draws on local cured meats, mountain cheeses, seasonal vegetables and regional wines. Set aside an evening to eat here; we confirm opening days and meal arrangements for your stay.

Food and wine

A connection with local wine

The family is also involved in wine production, including Prunent. If a tasting interests you, we can enquire about availability, the venue and transport as part of your itinerary.

Location and logistics

The old town, the railway and the valley villages

Da Sciolla stands in the pedestrian centre of Domodossola. Leave time for the arcades and squares around Piazza Mercato, with Palazzo San Francesco just opposite the inn. The railway station is within walking reach; we plan the final approach around your luggage and walking preferences.

Use the Vigezzina–Centovalli railway for days in the valley. Santa Maria Maggiore makes a rewarding principal stop, with museums, village streets and time for lunch. Malesco and Re can form another day, with a walk added where it suits you.

We choose the timetable and tickets around the stops you want to make, leaving time to explore each place. You can enjoy the railway and villages without including a demanding hike.

Arrival and access

For drivers, the inn offers paid private parking a few minutes away on foot. We confirm parking and luggage drop-off arrangements before arrival. If avoiding stairs matters, tell us so we can check the complete route to the room; lift and step-free access are not yet confirmed.
